MLK Day Service

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY SERVICE

A community-wide service to remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was held in our sanctuary on his birthday, January 14, 2012. It was sponsored by the Chatham Clergy Association and five members of the association participated, The Rev. Joseph Marchio, First Congregational Church; The Rev. Nancy Bischoff, First United Methodist Church; The Rev. Gail Smith, St. Christopher's Episcopal Church; The Rev, Anne Bonney, First Congregational Church; and The Rev. Edmund Robinson, Unitarian Universalist Meeting House. More than forty members of the community attended.

The service included quotations of Martin Luther King, hymns, prayers, and a solo by Carole Buttner  Maloof, contralto (Prayer of St. Francis). During the singing of "We Shall Overcome", the congregtaion joined hands.

Those present for the service were invited to write down words or phrases, and themes that they heard within the service and then bring them forward to be attached to a poster of Dr. King making his "I Have a Dream" speech. Each person shared aloud their word or phrase as they placed them on the poster. The photo shows the participating clergy standing near the photo.
